Hello,
I've had an http and IRC server set up on a FreeBSD box for some time now,
and I've been interested in setting up an email server capable of hosting
mail for probably about 15-20 people. However, all of the information I've
found on the internet has been only for setting up local intranet email,
while I want to set up a server emailable from any address, not just my own
domain. Does anyone have any information or recommendations as to what
software I should use, and how I should go about setting it up? (The server
is a Celeron-900 running FreeBSD 5.1)
Thanks,
~K9124 >> Stay informed about: Basic FreeBSD email server setup (howto?) |

There are a few scripts out there to do this, one I remember is called
FreeBSD Toaster. As someone else said, google.com/bsd for how-to articles. >> Stay informed about: Basic FreeBSD email server setup (howto?) |

Try www.google.com --search for "postfix+imap+howto" or just go to
postfix.org and read-up on the documents. There's also sendmail but
if you're starting out, postfix config file is more simpler than
sendmail. (or just "postfix+howto" or setup, etc.)

I use Exim for my mail server (along with Mailscanner and Spamassassin).
I store the mail in maildir format and use courier-imap for the pop/imap
side of things. Finally I use mailman for mailing lists.
I can't recall any specific docs off the top of my head, I'm afraid, but
google is always a great place to start.
Tim.

The ToasterScript (http://www.tnpi.biz) is the greatest thing since
sliced bread.
But it may be a bit overkill for somebody who just wants a mailserver
