Hello!

I'm just wondering; is anybody else having stability problems with
XFree86 and an ATI Radoen 9200 card?
The problem is that Xfree86 aborts very often (almost every second day).
The only message I find in /var/log/messages is:
May 22 19:22:30 kg-work /kernel: pid 30651 (XFree86), uid 0: exited on
signal 6

and then nothing. No core dump, no messages on the console, and nothing
else I can find. This have just recently begun (in the last month), and
I guess it is related to the fact that I have upgraded my ports.
Details of what I run:
FreeBSD kg-work.kg4.no 4.9-STABLE FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE #7: Sat Dec 13
17:10:15 CET 2003 root.TakeThisOut@kg-work.kg4.no:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/SS51 i386

(--) Chipset ATI Radeon 9200 5961 (AGP) found

I don't know where I should look next.
Any help appreciated.

I have a 9200 and XFree 4.3.0,1 without problems. However... my 9200
has a ChipID of 5964, so X doesn't recognize it. Overriding this with a
"ChipID 0x4967" in XF86Config does get it working.

The issue I posed in a previous post may be related. I had lockups on a
Radeon 9000, also leaving no useful logs. For my money, I'll bet
Warren's response is the best lead. For me, I'm waiting to get my old
machine back, which runs a mere ATI Rage XL, and never gave me a bit of
trouble. This gamer's box I now have has been no end of trouble.
