Hi,

I have 4.9R with sendmail being run as
enable_sendmail="NO"

Local SMTP works fine, so I could configure Mozilla Mail & News to send
outgoing e-mails through my own local sendmail, which works way much
faster than the SMTP server of the ISP.
So far, all my incoming mail came through POP3, from a remote server.
What I plan to do though, is to use fetchmail to get mail from my pop
account periodically. Then I would like to configure mozilla to read my
mails from the local machine instead of the remote POP3 server.
As unlike KMail, mozilla does not have support for local mbox files, I
think I need to install a POP3 or IMAP server for this, which will allow
my mozilla mail client to access my mbox file and move my mails over
from one file to another.

Question: Which one would you recommend, POP3 or IMAP ?
Maybe you can even recommend one specific mail-server you like ?

Thanks,

Keve

Hello!

A nice mail client is Ximian Evolution: it can collect mail from mbox or
pop3, etc...

I use Teapop as pop3 server.

Finally, I recommend Qmail as smtp mail server!

Good evening from Belgium!

Daniel

I was thinking about this, or maybe postfix. But at the moment I am not
convinced why I should replace my working sendmail. Especially when I am
not really experienced with mail servers and worried about messing it up.

Esp. for newbies I think postfix is easier to use. I use sylpheed-claws
for mail and news; and I have a set-up from a friend something like you
use (fetchmail -> postfix -> clamav (using amavis) -> postfix -> dspam
-> mbox -> sylpheed).
