Hello,

Does anyone know of a good virus scanner that runs on a FreeBSD based
email server? I'm using sendmail. Thanks.

Take a look at Scanmail for Unix. We have been using it for over a year
and a half and it has been great especially the past couple of months.
You can download it at http://www.scanmail-software.com

RAV was a good one. M$ couldn't beat it so they bought it.

Sophos is a big name but the subscription rate is crazy.

This one looks like a good replacement for RAV

I have just installed amavis and uvscan. Both are in the ports. Took a bit
to configure but works well with sendmail as a milter.

Mark.

Clam scan.
http://clamav.elektrapro.com/
Opensource, fast, freely updated and fuctional. It's also in ports.
It interfaces with all filters (amavis, qmailscanner, etc.) and MTA.

I've looked at this, sounds promising. Here are the number of
definitions after running freshclam -

Known viruses: 9656
Scanned directories: 1
Scanned files: 23
Infected files: 1
Data scanned: 20.49 Mb
I/O buffer size: 131072 bytes
Time: 26.786 sec (0 m 26 s)

Here are definitions from vexira

6.21.0.0
operating system: FreeBSD
product version: 2.1.8-1
engine version: 6.21.0.0
packlib version: 2.0.2.8 (supports 19 formats)
vdf version: 6.21.0.2 (78870 recognized forms)
registered user:
serial number:
key expires:
run mode: DEMO (key file not found)

Getting vexira setup as sendmail+milter is a snap.
