Hi folks,
i have installed freebsd 4.7 on a compaq proliant server, it has
hardware scsi raid, has 3 scsi hard drives. installed freebsd on
/dev/da0 i want to mirroe this drive on /dev/da1 and use /dev/da2 as
an extra drive.

i looked around the freebsd handbook storage section: 12.4.2 but was
not very helpful. looked around news groups and google a bit.

dmesg picks up the three drives, adaptec scsi adapter, dmesg | grep -i
raid doesnt show any thing. ( may be this is the problem?)

can some one post a howto in going about hardware scsi raid? or point
to some link, i would appreciate it.

thanks,
g.

As Matt says, for hardware you usually have to set it up outside of the OS.

Now, from memory Compaq has a utility on their setup CD to do all this,
and I think there is something in the built in BIOS utils. Use that to
configure the RAID as you wish.

I could be wrong here but if its got hardware RAID then you should be
looking to set the RAID options via hardware setup. You would probably find
the options to set this up are when the server starts up, probably a bit
like the BIOS and hit a key combo to enter the RAID setup..

I have played with RAID a bit and I dont think FreeBSD should even see the
mirrored drive at all as the RAID BIOS should hide it.

HTH.

Matt.
