Hi,

I am looking for a way to setup FreeBSD 5.2.1 on a machine with a pxe
enabled LAN card but without neither CDROM nor floppy drive .
My problem is that in every "Jumpstart" or "Pxe Boot" guides that I have
found on the internet, a FreeBSD server is required to do it.
I have no FreeBSD server and only a Linux machine so I cannot easily
compile the FreeBSD kernel or use specific FreeBSD commands like
vnconfig like explained in the articles. Is it possible to do a pxeboot
install with just a TFTP,DHCP,NFS server ? Has anyone succeeded in it ?

Thanks in advance,
Bengali

Yes, i have pxebooted FreeBSD from a Linux server without any problem
whatsoever. This was more than a year ago, so the only thong i remember
is that i had to observe carefully /var/log/messages on the Linux machine
because the system uses very much nfs to get files. I think that it is only
pxeloader which comes through tftp, all the rest comes by nfs. Hence you
have to care about proper organisation of your files.

 Thanks in advance,
 Bengali

Yes.

Just put a FreeBSD CD on an NFS server somewhere (if you're using Linux, you
should be able to mount -o loop an ISO image), and point your PXE bootable
machine to it.

Probably.

Which procedure did you follow? Did you use the GENERIC kernel?
How did you get rid off the vnconfig utility to create devices from
disk image like in the following link
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/pxe/bootstrap-config.html

Thanks,
Bengali
