Hello

I know this is a newbie issue, but I have googled for info to no
avail.

I have decided to try FreeBSD and downloaded 4.8.I also bought the
latest FreeBSD Handbook to make sure I have something on paper to help
me - but I need some more help!

Although I get the OS working with no problem, I can't get X Windows
to configure properly.
I have the monitor specs working (HP M70) but I think the problem lies
with my PCChips M825LU board and its onboard graphics card - savage 8

I can't get the config to complete successfully.

when I run startx It tells me I have no screens - although the small
print mentions that its actually that the card is incorrectly
configured.

What spec could I use to make this card work?

hope someone can help

I would try (as root):
XFree86 -configure
and then try it out with:
XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new
If that gives you a picture, press Ctl+Alt+BackSpace to stop XFree86, and
copy the section "Device" to your /etc/X11/XF86Config, and make sure that
the Device-entry in section "Screen" matches the Identity-entry in section
"Device"
