hello newsgroup

i was searching desperately for a documentation of all the sysctl
options.

- google was not a big help (although i found some particular options
described in some newsgroup)

- the freebsd handbook pointet me at sysctl(Cool which basicly just
tells me how to use the sysctl command

isn't there something like the 4.x LINT file where every option was
described just for the sysctl options (hey by the way, why is there no
such nice LINT file in 5.x? i know i can make one make LINT but that has
no comments)? i was also checking if there is maybe a
/etc/defaults/sysctl.conf

sorry for that kinda whiny post. i am just trying to get some answers Smile

thanks in advance for your help.

Basically you'd do a sysctl -a then go hunt for the documentation of all
the tiny bits. Those are rather dispersed through the manpages collection.

There is but it's called (and works) differently. I'm not running 5 ATM so
either you find out yourself (read the early-adopters guide) or someone else
might tell you its exact name.

Whining is not generally the best way to get help.

You want /sys/conf/NOTES and /sys/<arch>/conf NOTES where
<arch> can be i386, alpha, sparc, etc.
